NAMI WALK 2008
Saturday April 19, 2008
One in five people will be treated for a biological disorder at some time in their life. NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) Walks for the Mind of America, the annual San Diego fundraiser, is part of the solution.

The NAMI Walks raise money for programs that increase mental health recovery and reduce mental illness stigma.

Members of SDNC-CAMFT have formed a team and will be walking in the 5K event. Our goal is to have 10 walkers on our team and for each walker to raise $100, reaching a total of $1000 for our team.

In addition, SDNC-CAMFT has become a supporter of the event and members from our chapter will be dispensing information at our exhibit table on the day of the walk.

You can participate in 3 different ways:
1. become a walker (join our team: sdnc-camft),
2.donate money for any walker on the team, and/or
3. volunteer your time at our exhibit table.

To sign up as a walker or to donate money, go to: www.nami.org/namiwalks08/SDC/sdnc-camft

To volunteer to help on the day of the event or for any questions, contact: liaison@sdnc-camft.org

Thank you,

Here are some highlights of last years walk. Come join us and have some fun for a good cause!

NATIONAL DEPRESSION SCREENING DAY

On October 11, 2007, several members of North County CAMFT assisted interns at Mira Costa College screen students on National Depression Screening Day. The nationwide event was developed in order to identify people with depression, bi-polar, anxiety and PTSD symptoms in order to increase awareness and help direct people in need to treatment options. This event is held on many college campuses due to the number of students with depression, including those with suicidal thoughts and attempts.

On the day of the event, 32 people were screened, some with very serious depression symptoms. Of those screened, 7 students went directly to Mira Costa Student Health to make appointments for counseling. This year twice as many people were screened than last year, thanks in large part to the advertisement and encouragement from the Student Health Department on campus.

Many thanks to all of the NC-CAMFT participants, including: Becky Bernard, Lynn Erwin, Tecia Giusta, Seth Krauss, Nancy Peevey and Sheryl Purcell. This is a great example of NC-CAMFT being present and supportive in our north county community.

15th Anniversary Gala Celebration
October 5, 2007

If you joined us at the Gala you know what a fabulous time we had at Blellefleur Winery & Restaurant in Carlsbad. All who attended enjoyed a fun evening of food, wine, conversation and most of all great networking opportunities. Below are some of the highlights of the evening.

Keep March 14, 2008 open as that is the date of our next Networking Event! More information to follow. Please continue to support each other and SDNC-CAMFT by joining us at our monthly event meetings and future networking events.
