Speaker: Sara Gilman, PsyD, LMFT

When duty calls in your home town, will you be ready to provide ‘Psychological CPR?’ How we help people stabilize immediately after they have experienced a life-threatening incident, can influence their posttraumatic stress injury and posttraumatic growth. This presentation will provide you with vital tools to further equip you to respond effectively in times of crisis.

Goals:

  • Attendees will gain an understanding of how early psychological interventions impact the recovery of people who have experienced a traumatic, life threatening experience.
  • Attendees will learn the definition of ‘Psychological CPR’, and will learn and practice skills for brief interventions to be used following a critical incident to stabilize victims.

Objectives:

  • Attendees will understand the difference between Critical Incident Response and Psychotherapy.
  • Attendees will have a basic understanding of the value of early psychological interventions.
  • Attendees will learn and practice 2 early intervention skills.
  • Attendees will have an overall view of resources to further their knowledge and skills in the area of Disaster Mental Health and Early Intervention Psychological first aid. 

Pre-registration is required.

TARGET AUDIENCE:  Licensed and Pre-licensed clinicians and educators. 

This course meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.  SDNC-CAMFT CEP#128622
