Incorporating Mindfulness in YOUR Counseling/Psychotherapy Practice

Speaker: Steven A. Alper, L.C.S.W.

Author: Mindfulness Meditation in Psychotherapy: An Integrated Model for Clinicians  (Context Press Imprint, New Harbinger Publications, March 2016)

Pre-registration is required.

Beyond the “alphabet soup” of manualized, mindfulness-based interventions (MBSR, MBCT, MBRP, DBT, ACT, etc), this presentation offers an integrated, comprehensive model for incorporating mindfulness into psychotherapy to enhance efficacy, outcomes, and aliveness, whatever your primary theoretical orientation or intervention modality.

Learning Objectives:

1) Clarify and understand what mindfulness isn’t and is.

2) Understand and describe the benefits of incorporating mindfulness in psychotherapy.

3) Develop an introductory understanding of the Mindfulness Pyramid Model- a comprehensive, vertically integrated, trans-theoretical model for incorporating mindfulness in any psychotherapy practice.

4) Appy the Mindfulness Pyramid Model to your current clinical practice.

Presentation Goals:

1) Help attendees to more fully appreciate the personal and professional benefits of incorporating mindfulness in clinical practice.

2) Make clear the vital importance of the therapist’s personal mindfulness meditation practice as essential foundation for incorporating mindfulness in psychotherapy.

3) Demonstrate how the therapist’s personal mindfulness practice informs the therapeutic relationship and potentiates therapeutic interventions, whether or not the therapist explicitly teaches mindfulness practices to the client.
